In sleep medicine, nasal cannulas are mainly used to measure nasal/oral airflow and snoring in sleep diagnostics and sleep therapy. The term polysomnography (PSG) covers a range of examinations to evaluate sleep quality and associated disorders. During the PSG examination, various physiological measurements are taken to record the brain waveform (EEG), eye movements (EOG), muscle tension, breathing and heart activity. In this regard, electrodes, sensors and nasal cannulas are used to derive a complete sleep study. This examination is recommended for "non-restorative sleep" or "snoring". If obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is diagnosed, CPAP therapy is initiated.
